I recently bought a 2002 Aero 2.3 Turbo Wagon(23T B235R) 5 speed automatic with 150,000 miles. It has nearly new Hankook Ventus S1 evo 225/45 ZR17 tires. I am looking to improve the ride.
The chassis number plate reads GB-EE-J-J-7-BJ. One dealer wanted this to confirm it as sport suspension. The other dealer said it was standard suspension from the VIN #. I read thru the VIN codes and did not see how the suspension was determined from the VIN. My choices as I see it are OE standard, sport or Bliestin Heavy Duty(or sport).
As I am sure you know, this car rides rather low. The front end does not handle stutters well and when going down the highway the drink must come out of the flip down cup holder to prevent it from splashing all over with moderately hard feel thru the steering wheel. I have a moderately steep driveway and if I don’t back out at an angle the rear hitch scrapes. The car tracks good and rides well under smooth/moderate roads. I recently hit a deep pothole approaching a stop and did in the front spoiler. The car is sometimes loaded down with people and gear and is my daily driver. I am fairly easy on the car but will go fast when wanting to get thru traffic. I am looking for a solid/comfortable ride that can handle the bumps.
A mechanic recently inspected the suspension and everything is mechanically sound.
What advice, struts/shocks can some of you experts suggest for improving the ride? Are specific struts and shocks required with certain models/chaisis? Will Bliestin HDs be to harsh?
What is the correct struts, springs and shocks for this car?
