Bought a 96 900 SE and a 98 900 S recently, each has a stereo cassette player; each worked fine for a few minutes at first and then started to change directions on their own and finally just spit out the tapes. Put a replacement system in the 96 and it did the same thing. Do these older players not take newer tapes or has there always been a problem with these players?

No, I've tried different tapes in different vehicles. Also a tape that worked ok once now will keep changing directions and get spit out. Also tried to insert a tape connector for an mp3 player and that didn't work either. Had the same problem with 3 different radios!

mine just broke completely, at first it was just spitting the tapes out, after a couple back and forths with me and it, i would give up, but 2 nights ago, i pushed the tape in 1 time when i got in the car, it took the tape, played backward and foward, then attempted to spit it out, but did not, the tape is now stuck in the player, awesome.
