hard gear change automatic saab 9-3 aero 2004

Hello everyone,
i have the saab 9-3 aero semi-auto 2004 model , the past few weeks i have been noticing that when gearing down or up from 3rd to 2nd the gear change is quite abrupt, you can actually feel the gear change with a thud.

The other day i had it in Drive, after putting it in Reverse there was about a 5 second delay and then the gear changed, again this was quite abrupt. This seems to only happen when the engine has warmed up. I know this is a transmission issue and after finding out the price for a new one, im sweating bullets....

I am going to the mechanic tomorrow and would like to know if someone can help me maybe get some insite to the problem and not look like a total noob in front of my mechanic. total noob + mechanic = overpriced quotation, no offence to any mechanics out there.
