i have the timing chain held up by a wire so it does'nt fall into the bottom of the motor and lose the alignment on the crank teeth. when i slip the head off, the Bently Manual notes that one should put the chain hanging over the side. It mentions nothing about supporting the chain.
So, my question is, do i have to support the chain somehow from preventing a disaster? Or does the guide (inwhich the tensioner contacts) squeeze the chain enough against the the other guide, so it does not fall? I was wondering why Bently mentions just putting the chain unsupported out of the head on the exhaust side? It would seem to me that the chain would just fall into the motor. much appreciated. | 3/4 of the chain is above the cyinder block and it will hang over like the book show's. I am changing my head gasket also, but I still have a wire on it also |

Even if it falls u can still grab it. There are lots of things in that area to hold it up. |
