99 9-3 Shift lock solenoid replacement

Post by murphy390 » Tue Jun 02, 2009 7:30 pm

Hi. My son just bought a 99 9-3 with automatic transmission and we're having a problem with the shift lock solenoid. Turns out the original owner did not take advantage of the free fix Saab offered through 2001.

So, how does one go about replacing the solenoid? I've done some searching but haven't found the proper procedure to replace it. I'm reasonably adept at working on Camrys and Maximas but new to Saab.

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks. So once I get the center console off the solenoid switch is readily accessible? Any special tools required to remove the solenoid?

Much appreciated!

Ran in to a problem. I got my hands on a solenoid from a 97 900 and, when I cross referenced the part numbers, it looked like it would fit...it doesn't. On my 99 9-3 the solenoid is situated in the front of the shifter, a little left of center. There is also a white plastic cover over the base of the shifter that the "accordian slide" goes through but I did not remove that for 2 reasons. By then I knew I did not have the correct part and I also couldn't figure out how to remove it. Does it simply snap in? Really couldn't tell.

I also managed to rip the accordian slide so I just ordered one from you guys. Once I figure out how to completely get to the solenoid I'll be back for that and post a follow up.

Thanks, SB. I wasn't clear on my last post. The white plastic cover/piece that I need to remove to get at the solenoid looks like it is hinged, somehow, and "lifts" from the front and pivots on the rear. Is that correct? If so, how does it disengage from the front? Where it is plastic I don't want to break it.

Many thanks!

SB, what I need to remove is your part number 4776209. What is the correct procedure?

Thanks!
