ENGINE OIL PICKUP CLOGGING ISSUES

In the bottom of every Saab oil pan is a oil pick-up which picks up the oil via suction from the oil pump and distributes it to the upper end of the engine via oil canals that run from the top of the engine to the bottom. From 1970-1995 there were very few issues with the pickup. In the mid 90's engine tolerances became tighter and synthetic oils surfaced meaning one could go 10,000 miles before an oil change (at least that was the theory). This meant that most customers would change it at 15,000 miles due to busy schedules etc....

Engines began to fail which was quite odd for a Saab. Added heat from converters began close to the oil pan, smaller oil pickups and longer oil change intervals cause clogging of the oil pickups which led to engine failures due to poor lubrication. Here is how we see the issues on certain Saabs.

Saab 95 issues do exist and this pan is HIGHLY Recommended
Saab 93 98-2003 issues do exist and this pan is HIGHLY Recommended
Saab 93 2003 on Sport Sedan. No issues exist as of yet
Saab V6 engines also do not seem to have these issues at this point in the 95 and NG900

Keep in mind that we are not saying that this is the all inclusive cure to every Saab engine problem. What we are saying is that this will enable Saab owners to change their engine oil and clean their oil screen everytime an oil change is done. We are working on versions now for every engine that Saab makes or has made. Each one will be slightly different according to vehicle. We also have a modified oil pickup screen that is in the works and should be available shortly.

Engines cost range between 1800.00 and 6000.00 depending on whether you buy used or new engines. This is just the engine cost and does not include labor cost. This kind of thing can be avoided by NOT changing your oil at 10,000 miles. We recomment 3500 to 5000 MAX. Pictures below lead to ENGINE FAILURE.
