The AC expansion valves job is to regulate the amount of Freon that is allowed into the evaporator at one time. As the temperature of Freon increases the pressure inside the valve also increases moving a check ball and pushrod which regulates the amount of Freon that enters the evaporator.

Removal of Evaporator

STEP 1

Drain the AC system & evacuate the AC refrigerant

STEP 2

Remove AC Lines

STEP 3

Remove AC Expansion Valve by removing the 2 torx screws (5 ft lbs torque)

STEP 4

Refit in reverse
