The information below can be used for Saab 95, 900 and 943 4 cylinder engines. Keep in mind that there may be differences. Feel free to contribute pictures as we could use them
| STEP 1 | Put a cover over the fender and remove the Air Mass meter |
| STEP 2 | Remove the bypass hose and remove the engine cover |
| STEP 3 | Remove the hose from the Turbo to the intake |
| STEP 4 | Remove the belt tension with a rachet handle and insert a 6mm allen in the tensioner hole |
| STEP 5 | Remove the power steering pump and breather hose |
| STEP 6 | Remove the Turbo nuts and remove the turbo |
| STEP 7 | Remove the coolant hoses for the head and the tubes |
| STEP 8 | Remove the DI Cassette if equipped (red or black) |
| STEP 9 | Remove the throttle hoses |
| STEP 10 | Remove the dipstick tube bracket and the tube |
| STEP 11 | Remove the intake bolts and any electrical connections |
| STEP 12 | Remove the Valve Cover and turn the flywheel using the crank pulley bolt until the flywheel mark is at 0 and the timing marks are at the top dead center using the arrows on the camshaft pulleys |
| STEP 13 | Remove the timing chain tensioner and positon the chain where it cannot be damaged by the removal of the cylinder head |
| STEP 14 | Clean the backside of the cylinder head and the engine block with a rotary pad being careful not to groove either |
| STEP 15 | Replace the head gasket and retorque the cylinder head using the torque sequence in the head set. Use either OES antifreeze or Pentosin lifetime antifreeze and you should be done |
