Oxygen Sensor Replacement (Universal)

[Saab 900, 9000, 92X, 93, 95, 97X, 99]

The replacement Bosch Universal oxygen sensors are the same sensor as the OES versions but the wires are a different length which means that you must splice the wiring from the original oxygen sensor to the Universal one. There are basically two different configurations that exist from Bosch. One is a connector on the universal sensor and one is no connector with posi-lock connectors (bosch actually controls this and we usually will not know which is shipped). We recommend using butt type connectors with heat shrink tubing to splice the wires in either case. The posi-lock connectors are very good as well but we still prefer this method.

STEP 1 Remove the original oxygen sensor that you are attempting to replace
STEP 2 Lay the original sensor beside the universal sensor to measure the wire length
STEP 3 Cut the original sensor wiring so that that you have a inch or so more in length than the original sensor had
STEP 4 Strip the wiring on all 6 or 8 wires back about an inch
STEP 5 Install heat shrink tubing about 2 inches long on each wire first and then install the butt connector (ones with no plastic around them or you can buy the ones with plastic on them and cut the plastic off)
STEP 6 Crimp the connectors for each spliced wire and the solder the crimped connectors and allow the flow to go into the aluminum type butt connectors
STEP 7 Let the connectors cool and then slide the heat shrink tubing over the connectors and use a lighter to melt the heat shring tubing aroud the butt connector on each wire.
STEP 8 Keep in mind that this is just the perfect way to do this job but it is NOT the only way. Simply using plastic covered button connections will work fine and so will the posi-lock connectors. We realy recommend the soldering because the bosch wiring is out of corrosive proof type materials and we think it is better to solder long term. Most guys do NOT do this but it is our recommendation. We just do not want you to have to chase a lean-rich mixture fault code if the other connectors do not seal correctly. We have seen very little issues either way.
