Cleaning the rubber dashboard coating

[Saab 93 2.0T (sedan), 93 2.8T, 95]

Question: Just got a '05 9-3 and I'd like to clean the radio face. There is some slight peeling around the volume knob but the rest looks good, except for some white buildup around other buttons. What's the safest way to clean to rubber surfaces without causing them to peel more?

Anyone have any other suggestions/resolutions to the peeling issue? If the radio gets worse I've found a source for a new faceplate but I don't really want to have to do that.

Thanks,
JN

Answer: I don't think it matters honestly. That was a GM design that we use to never see on Saab's. I doubt you will see that in the future either.

I have a 2006 Saab 9-3, with the matte paint, and the paint is wearing off, revealing the white plastic underneath. What you can probably do is get a foam sponge, and some cheap flat black spray paint;(its usually more greyish than the nice stuff, and the color on the dash isn't quite black). Spray it on the sponge and dab it gently on the worn areas. Don't put too much on, or the paint will run. Also be ready with some light solvent to quickly wipe away any mistakes.
