First of all my wife when out and started the car to bring our son to school she drove him to school and shut off the car when she went to start it again nothing happened. Everything powered up but when turned to the start position nothing happened. Rolling the car (5 speed) and jump starting it worked fine. From them on it was a mystery as to when it will start. When it got cold (30 degrees F or colder) it would start.
After consulting TheSAABSite it was determined that it was probably the electrical portion of the ignition switch. I then brought the car to a mechanic to install a switch. After he had replaced the switch and before reassembling the console he tried the switch and found that he could not turn it into the start position. After quite some time we found that he was tightening the screws to much. The screws only need to be brought up to touch the switch using lock tight on the threads. After doing that the switch would now turn to the start position.
Now before reassembling we wanted to start the car to make sure that it all works. We then turned the key on everything powered up then turned the key to start and the info display said unrecognized key??? After much time we found that the ignition switch collar/cover needed to be plugged in and set on top of the switch before the computer would recognize the key. With the ignition switch collar/cover on top of the switch and plugged in the car started right up.
