Question: Hello - The radio in my 2001 - 93 has a phantom issue. After turning off the car, there's a 50/50 chance the radio will return to the state it was in prior to shutting off the car. If the radio was on, it may be off when I restart the engine or vise versa. Any help is appreciated!!! :?
Answer: Is the igition switch sticking?
Answer: No, it doesn't seem to be sticking. All other electronics work ok (cig. lighter, etc.) It appears to be seated in the dash properly as well. Nudging it doesn't make it go on and off so I don't think it's a loose connection. It may be the radio is nearing its end as it wouldn't come on today, unless I shut the car off, then back on. Thoughts?
Answer: Ya that sounds like the radio unit
Answer: Have this same problem, and the ignition is a little sticky... I have to make sure the button pops up before I can lock it remotely. However, even when it pops up, sometimes the radio lights stay on. Most of the time they don't, but last minute jumps starts are getting tiresome. What could this be, and is it safe to just pull the fuse on it and go radio-less?
Thanks
Answer: Radio issues in this era of SAABs are notorious. The radios, sadly, just are not very good. Making matter worse is the inability to put in an aftermarket unit and maintain the very cool look of the SAAB interior. My wife had two new radios put in during the first few years of ownership. When our SID went out our garage got a refurb with a lifetime warranty. There may be companies who refurb radios (and may even give a lifetime warranty on the it). Having a great SAAB mechanic is key. Our dealership in the area is pretty useless, but my mechanic is very sharp.
