REAR BRAKE PADS & ROTOR REPLACEMENT

[93 03-07]

Step 1 Raise the car.
Step 2 Remove the rear wheels
Step 3 Remove the retaining spring from the brake caliper.
Step 4 Remove the protective covers and guide pins. Lift off the brake caliper and suspend it using a hook (cloths hanger) on the brake line bracket so it does not hang by the brake line. (Not supporting the brake caliper can cause damage to the brake lines)
Step 5 Remove the inner brake pad from the caliper and the outer brake pad from the bracket.
Clean the inside of the brake caliper using a quality brake & parts cleaner and check the dust covers for any defects.
Step 6 Remove the brake caliper bracket.
Step 7 Remove the locking screw holding the rotor on and take off the rotor.
Step 8 Clean all the contact surfaces between the hub and the brake rotor using a quality brake & parts cleaner. Fit the brake rotor and locking screw. Torque to 5 ft lbs
Step 9 Install the brake caliper bracket using thread lock. Torque to 96 ft lbs + 45 degrees.
Step 10 Screw in the caliper piston using the specific tool available at your local automotive parts store for sell or rent. (You can't use C-Clamps on ABS brakes to return the caliper piston, you need the tool kit that includes adapters for ABS brakes made for returning caliper pistons) Note: Make sure the rubber boots around the caliper don't turn because cracking can occur.
Step 11 Be sure to install any backing plates from the old pads to the new ones if needed
Step 12 Install the brake pads into the caliper.
Step 13 Install the caliper and torque to 21 ft lbs
Step 14 Install the protective covers and retaining spring to the brake caliper.
Step 15 Install the wheels and lower the car.
Step 16 Press the brake pedal a few times to take out the slack in between pads and rotor.
Step 17 Check the brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
Step 18 Check the operation of the foot brake and handbrake
