ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT 4 CYLINDER

[93 03-07]

Removal of Alternator

Step 1 Remove the battery cover and disconnect the negative battery cable
Step 2 Raise the car.
Step 3 Remove the lower engine cover.
Step 4 Place a container under the car, connect a hose to the radiator and drain the coolant.
Step 5 Remove the plastic nuts from the wheel arch liner.
Step 6 Move aside the wheel arch liner, unload the belt tensioner and take off the belt (mark the belt direction). Use tool 8396095.
Step 7 Lower the car.
Step 8 Remove the upper engine cover.
Step 9 Unplug the connectors from the engine control module.
Step 10 Remove the engine control module.
Step 11 Detach the air hose from the air filter housing.
Step 12 Remove the cover of the air filter housing.
Step 13 Remove the air filter.
Step 14 Unplug the connector from the pressure sensor.
Step 15 Detach the intake air pipe from the air filter housing and lift up the filter housing.
Step 16 Detach the coolant hose from the engine and radiator. Put it aside.
Step 17 Detach the vent hose from the air hose to the throttle body and loosen the fastener in the camshaft cover.
Step 18 Put aside the vent hose.
Step 19 Detach the generator connections.
Step 20 Remove the generator retaining bolts.
Step 21 Lift up the generator.

Installation of Alternator

Step 1 Position the generator correctly.
Step 2 Fit the generator retaining bolts and torque to 24 Nm (18 ft lbs)
Step 3 Attach the generator connections.
Step 4 Fit the vent hose fastener to the camshaft cover.
Step 5 Fit the vent hose to the throttle body air hose.
Step 6 Fit the coolant hose to the engine and radiator.
Step 7 Fit the intake air pipe to the air filter housing.
Step 8 Plug in the connector to the pressure sensor.
Step 9 Put the air filter in place.
Step 10 Fit the air filter housing cover.
Step 11 Fit the air hose to the air filter housing.
Step 12 Fit the engine control module.
Step 13 Plug in the engine control module connectors.
Step 14 Install the upper engine cover.
Step 15 Raise the car.
Step 16 Move aside the wheel arch liner and unload the belt tensioner to reinstall the belt. Use tool 8396095 (be certain it is fitted in the correct direction)
Step 17 Fit the plastic nuts on the wheel arch liner.
Step 18 Fit the lower engine cover.
Step 19 Lower the car.
Step 20 Connect the negative battery cable.
Step 21 Install the battery cover.
Step 22 Reset the car
Step 23 Top up with coolant and bleed the cooling system
