| STEP 1 | Remove the Return hose to the rack and Drain the steering fluid by turning the wheel left to right and placing a container below the hose. Plug the hose |
| STEP 2 | Remove the battery ground cable from the battery |
| STEP 3 | Move the main fuse box to the side |
| STEP 4 | Remove the lower dash on the driver side inside the car to enable access to the rack joint inside the car |
| STEP 5 | Remove the lower steering column joint bolt and straighten the steering wheel to straight ahead. Keep the steering wheel straight during the rest of the procedure. Some people actually tape the steering wheel to the top dash pad |
| STEP 6 | Take apart the joint from the steering rack and remove the track rod from the rack |
| STEP 7 | Jack up the car, Remove the left wheel and remove the track rod from the strut by use of special tool 8996696 or an equivalent tool to get the ball joint loose. Then lower the car. NOTE: A New locking plate should be used anytime this is removed. The PART # is: 42 723 & must be purchase from Saab. Tightening Torque is 44.3 lb/60NM of torque- track rods torque specs: Tightening torque: 85-100 Nm/62.7-73.8 Ib ft. The wheel torque specs are: 105-130 Nm (77.5-95.9 lb.ft ft). |
| STEP 8 | Remove the holding clamps on the left and right side. |
| STEP 9 | Remove the holding clamps on the left and right side. |
| STEP 10 | Remove any additional rack pipes and remove the rack through the left hand wheel opening. |
| STEP 11 | Refit in Reverse order |
| STEP 12 | NOTE: If the steering wheel position has been changed the coil spring unit must be adjusted by SAAB!
