The picture on the bottom is the old style clutch kits and can identified by noting that the fingers are flat and so is the throwout bearing face. If you have a 1975 99 or older you will have to buy the individual pieces to repair your clutch because clutch kit 8818098 is no longer available. Companies will superceed this number to a later kit but it will NOT work as a replacement.

NOTE: The clutch throwout bearing is not available by itself. It is only available with the purchase of the slave cylinder. Both the slave and the throwout bearing should be replaced when replacing the clutch.

NOTE: Release bearing failures can be identified by noting that noise exists from the clutch area when pushing in the clutch. This is an indication that the bearing is dry or is coming apart
NOTE: The mid 1980's clutches on the Saab 900 changed design. You can tell the new style by noting that the clutch splines are no longer flat. If the splines are raised then it is the new style clutch pressure plate. Part number 8721995 is the Release bearing used with the new style clutch. You CANNOT use the old bearing part 8704728 with this clutch pressure plate as it will not work correctly

NOTE: Clutch Slave cylinder replacement on the 9000 is fairly common (especially on high mileage cars). The Slave should always be replaced when replacing the pressure plate and disc. The most common failure is leakage due to seal failure. Seal failure can be identified by noticing brake fluid leakage where the engine and transmission are bolted together at the bottom.

NOTE: Shift Joint failure can generally be identified by noting that there is no shifting pattern when attempting to locate gears. This is usually an indication that the shift joint has separated on cars prior to 1994. On 1994-98 cars you may experience the same problem but you will be able to feel the movement of the shifter by bumping the throttle and feeling the shifter move harshly.
