CONVERTIBLE TOP INOP

Question: 2002 SE convertible, LOVE it, convertible top mechanics work fine except for the 'bonnet' no longer automatically opens and closes. I have to manually lift or lower. It latches and unlatches fine. The top itself works
great. I'm not sure where to start.

Answer: Ck the wire harness at the trunk lid. If those wires are broken then you cant open the trunk

Answer: The trunk opens fine. It just feels like the connection between whatever opens and closes the top storage area (bonnet) is disconnected.

Answer: Ck the fluid in the conv top if low the tonneau cover wont release. If that is what you are referring to

Answer: It's only the Tonneau cover that is having issues, it 'feels' disconnected in that in manually moves freely up and down without any resistance.

Answer: If you can move the tonneau cover then open the trunk and fold down the carpet at the top and you will see the tonneau bar there. It is the length of the trunk on the passenger side. I bet the key way broke that controls it. It will need to be replaced.

Solution: Bingo! The universal joint between the torsion bar and the main unit is broken.
